The Silo Hotel and Brundyn Arts & Culture have partnered to bring Gabrielle Kruger’s solo exhibition to The Vault, The Silo Hotel’s private art galley. The exhibition Blurred Lines will run until August 2025.Kruger, a Cape Town-based artist, uses acrylic paint as a dynamic medium to transform and develop works that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Her innovative approach allows her to create pieces that are striking and tactile.
The paintings in Blurred Lines are exhibited alongside sculptural vessels, further expanding the notion between painting and sculpture, surface and object, organic and synthetic. It pushes the limits of paint beyond the canvas.
“The exhibition embraces fluidity,” says Yusuf Essop, curator at Brundyn Arts & Culture. “Her interest in transformation and materiality resonates with ideas about shifting realities, where materials and meanings are always in flux. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, her works invite viewers to engage with their evolving nature.”
The Vault is a private art gallery beneath The Silo Hotel. On the hotel’s private parking level, the industrial space is transformed by each exhibition that welcomes guests as they enter. The exhibition space provides artists with a platform to showcase their works. The Vault features two artists each year, and the hotel strategically partners with local art galleries to invigorate the space and promote local contemporary art.
Liz Biden, founder of The Royal Portfolio and a devoted art collector, selects a piece of artwork from each exhibition to display in the hotel after the exhibitions have concluded. For the opening of Kruger’s exhibition The Silo Hotel will present a pop-up display, showcasing the acquisition artworks from the past 8 years.The Silo Hotel Vault Collection includes pieces from artists such as Kate Gottgens, David Koloane, Wilfred Timire, Mongezi Ncaphayi and Gerald Machona.
